About Monet: The Master Jewelers

As one of the oldest costume jewelry companies still in existence, Monet has, for almost 70 years, made jewelry that cannot be surpassed for its quality, craftsmanship, and audacious design. Monet: The Master Jewelers is a long overdue, in-depth look at this innovative and enduring company. Through comprehensive research, little known facts about Monet and its founders, Michael and Joseph Chernow, as well as the people behind it, are revealed for the first time. Misconceptions about the company's origins and its early years are finally corrected. This is also a visual celebration of the artistry of Monet jewelry throughout the decades. Delving well beyond basic gold necklaces and earrings, you will be overwhelmed by the diversified and unique styling of the many bracelets, charms, earrings, and necklaces Monet pioneered throughout their long history. The Monet experience is further explored through vintage magazine and newspaper advertisements, patents, rare company and family photos, as well as never-before-published memorabilia from the early Monocraft years. Collectors, dealers, designers, stylists, and anyone with an appreciation of costume jewelry and its history will find this book to be a valuable and must-have reference.

April 2011- Book Club Selection - JAKE WEST: The Keeper of the Stones by M.J. WEBB

The April 2011, Bloggers Unite Book Club selection is JAKE WEST: The Keeper of the Stones by M.J. WEBB. This is the first book in YA Fantasy series and JAKE WEST: The Keeper of the Stones is a great read for young adults and "older" adults to enjoy. To read more about this title and the author, please visit M.J. WEBB's website.

About JAKE WEST: The Keeper of the Stones
When fifteen year old Jake West and his best friend, Ben Brooker, help Jake's grandfather clear his attic of the junk he's collected from his years of traveling, the boys discover an old chest containing a beautifully carved wooden box. The box contains a set of five mysterious stones and, when they erupt to emit a bright beam of light, it sparks an epic journey which will lead Jake into a dangerous world and to the discovery of some strange family secrets. The future of our world and countless others now lies in the hands of a fifteen year old boy. If he can't protect the stones . . . .

About the author, M.J. WEBB
I was looking through a children’s book club magazine one day, trying to take full advantage of the introductory offer to purchase some reading material for my two little munchkins, when I found myself thinking, ‘Hey, you know what? I could write a book.’
The more I thought about it, the more the idea gripped me and I raced for a pen to write down a concept that had been in the back of my mind for some time.
Thus began a writing process that continued unabated for the next six months. I found myself snatching a precious hour here and there, going in early for work, working through dinner hours, using up holidays and sulking like a child if I couldn’t get my fix and work on my ‘project’. The story grew beyond the original concept and pretty soon I realized that I had an epic on my hands..... But I still didn’t know if it was any good.
My family were the first to read it. My mother’s and my wife reported enthusiastically that it was good... But they were bound to, weren’t they?
I sent it out electronically to several readers I didn’t know, including five teenagers who would represent my target audience. To my immense satisfaction, they all reported positively and could also see the potential in the storyline and characters. Publishers are wary of new authors though, particularly in the current economic climate. We all think we are the next big thing. And in the fantasy genre, they are even less likely to give new writers a chance. So, I decided to back myself, because I believe this is a genuinely good read that people will enjoy and that it contains characters with which kids will identify.
I hope you enjoy it. And that if you do, you will recommend it to others. For that is how a ripple on the ocean that I’d like to sail on, will begin."

March 2011- Book Club Selection - The Tale of the Twins: Book One by Dairenna Vonravenstone

The March 2011, Bloggers Unite Book Club selection is The Tale of the Twins: Book One: Gathering and Destruction by Dairenna Vonravenstone. If you would like to read more about this title, please visit Dairenna's website.

About The Tale of the Twins: Book One: Gathering and Destruction

More than half the human race is dead because of the nuclear explosions in World War Three. Pain, death and hopelessness rule the world and crush the people left to scramble for survival. These survivors pray for an end to their suffering. Finally, their prayers are answered, but not as they expected.

Rising amid the chaos and destruction are the immortal twins, taught to survive and trained for one purpose. Three thousand years of life has taught them how to end the misery, how to bring harmony back to the world. To end the anguish, they must fight against one of their own. A tyrant who wants to rule the city with an Iron fist, oppressing the people further and leaving them with nothing to look forward to. The twins begin the fight alongside others like themselves so they can bring peace to the war-ravaged world.

The battle they begin is one that forces them to face hardships they have never seen in their long lives. This very battle could rip them apart at the seams. Can they restore a world destroyed by its own people, or will they lose each other forever?

About Dairenna VonRavenstone

Dairenna VonRavenstone grew up in a small town in the Niagara Region of Southern Ontario, Canada. From the age of ten, she wrote stories for herself and to please some of her friends. She had always dreamed of being a successful author and worked on many novels and short stories to achieve her dream.

Dairenna is an avid reader, with her own library of about 1,000 books (and growing) ranging in genres from horror to fantasy, to romance, to mystery, to crime fiction, to philosophy, to biology, and to science fiction. She usually reads a novel a month and has run out of room in her cozy living space to fit anymore.

Dairenna is also a gamer for both online and console games. She believes there is nothing more relaxing then planning a strategy for taking out an enemy or just using the training feature of many popular fighting games to beat an enemy senseless.

She attended a Roman Catholic high school where she made the Honour Roll all four years, excelling in Maths, English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Writer’s Craft. She also enjoys martial arts, though has been out of practice for two years. Dairenna also enjoys researching whatever piques her interest at any given time with topics ranging from microbiology to the Wiccan lifestyle to Religion and Philosophy.

Others would describe Dairenna as a quiet contemplator with the communication skills of a social butterfly when needed. She is somewhat introverted and tends to consider her words carefully before speaking.

She enjoys the mystique of being a slightly anonymous writer and feels that sharing the little details of her life would give her unwanted attention at this point. Personal questions about her age, place of residence or other details that may give her away will not be answered because of the mystique she would like to maintain for a little while.

February 2011- Book Club Selection - Deuces Wild by Jean Holloway

The February 2011, Bloggers Unite Book Club selection is Deuces Wild by Jean Holloway. If you would like to read more about this title, please visit Jean's website.

About Deuces Wild
Three years have passed since the Black Jack case ended and in the fiendishly-evil and sexy as hell, Deuces Wild, the third novel of the Deck of Cardz series, Detective Shevaughn Robinson-William’s career and personal life are at a crossroads as she tries to assist in the capture of a homicidal couple on a murdering spree filled with illegal drugs and illicit perversion.

Meanwhile, Shevaughn’s idyllic marriage is beginning to crumble, a secret revealed has a profound impact on her entire extended family and to top it all off, her daughter seems to be communicating with a supportive spirit who is trying to warn Shevaughn about her marriage and help her solve the case.

Should she comply with her husband’s wishes and save her marriage or will she lose him to her career? Shevaughn tracks a young couple as they go on a tri-state rampage of lethal depravity, proving their commitment is one without morals, conscience or boundaries.

Sometimes, love can be murder...

About Jean Holloway
Jean Holloway's debut novel Ace of Hearts started 30 years ago in answer to a bet. Her sister, Lori said, "You read so much, I bet you could write a book" and Jean answered, "I bet I could." Her oldest memories are of reading. She let the words carry her away to places only her imagination could take her. Stephen King and Dean Koontz are her ultimate tour guides and honorable mentions go to Jean Auel and Agatha Christie. Jean sometimes felt more at home in their cleverly crafted worlds than in her own.

Life's Detours

Jean's biological mother died when she was thirteen, the age when puberty reared its ugly head. Needless to say, she was a wife and mother at seventeen and divorced at twenty. She later met her second, current, and final husband, Fred. They’ve been together 38 years.

Pen to Paper

Accepting her sister's bet would prove more challenging than easily merging her love for reading great horror and mystery classics. In 1980, she wrote the first draft of Ace of Hearts longhand. Over the next two decades the manuscript matured with technology, to typewriter to word processor and finally to computer in 2003.

Bet Accepted...Again

In 2004, Lori once again challenged Jean to introduce Ace of Hearts to the world.  She pushed Jean to print several copies of her manuscript and she even paid for Jean to attend the National Book Club Conference in Atlanta, GA.  Not willing to say no to such a tempting challenge, Jean went and handed her manuscripts out in a room full of Zane fans and book clubs began talking! She met her soon-to-be publisher that weekend. Three months later, Jean signed a contract, went through the editing process and "Ace of Hearts" was born!

Dream Deferred

Jean's sophomore novel, Black Jack was published July, 2009 and she just completed the third installment in her Deck of Cardz series. Deuces Wild will be released on 10/10/10, her 60th birthday. Most importantly, Jean's story is one of hope and a testament to never giving up your dream.

She lives in Kennesaw, GA with her husband, Fred and their dogs, Kayla, a Lhasa apso diva and Max, an Afghan puppy. Their six grown children all live nearby. Together, they have been blessed with eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She recently became Managing Partner and In-House Editor for PHE Ink Writing Solution Firm, her new publishing family.

January 2011- Book Club Selection - Therapy: A Novel by Harrie Rose

Hello Everyone,

The January 2011, Bloggers Unite Book Club selection is Therapy: A Novel by Harrie Rose. If you would like to read more about this title, please visit Harrie's blog.

About Therapy: A Novel

The Clarion Review says, "Harrie Rose's debut novel brilliantly explores the causes and effects of depression and anxiety, as well as how early experiences shape one's life for good or ill...Rose balances the intricacies of the therapist-patient relationship with a fascinating yarn about a woman recognizing the contradictory influences on her life and ultimately coming into her own....Therapy is recommended for anyone who enjoys a meaty read with a strong female protagonist." Written in a vivid first person narrative that sweeps the reader along, this bold novel introduces Barbara, a 52 year old woman who has it all. So why is she sunk in an abyss of depression? Barbara is so real that, as one reader said, "I'd love to get in a car and drive along the country roads until I find Barbara's house, so we can chat over coffee." Delving into the complexities of psychiatry, from its necessity to its folly, the author recounts Barbara's journey to a realization of her true worth. But is this because of her therapist or despite him? What are his true motives? the moral and ethical issues Barbara ultimately faces make excellent fodder for discussions. This is a superb choice for book clubs, but also for individuals. Despite the media's message that you must fight old age, Barbara proves that maturity itself has its own beauty, both inner and outer. Even the young admire her for her warmth, wisdom, and guts. Like the flowers in the gardens she grows, Barbara is reborn after a winter of despair.

About Harrie Rose

Harrie Rose is the pen name of a respected and well-known scholar in the field of linguistics as it pertains to how people use language in society, and especially the language of the mentally ill and the discourse of therapy between patient and therapist. "I'm basically a stay-at-home person. I love to watch birds from the picture window in my kitchen and keep a pair of binoculars on a hook near the dining table. I love lying on the grass in the summer and watching the hawks circling overhead. Making good food for friends and family is always a pleasure. I hike, not as much as I did when I was younger and the trails I follow aren't as steep, but I still get out in the woods near my home for a couple of hours a few days a week. Because my sense of direction is so bad, I always take my sheepdog with me and he makes sure I don't get off the trails."

December 2010 - Book Club Selection - Restored Hope by Brenda Youngerman

Hello Everyone,

The December 2010, Bloggers Unite Book Club selection is Restored Hope by Brenda Youngerman. If you would like to read more about this title, please visit Brenda's website and blog.

About Restored Hope

Even when the world throws everything at you, the human spirit is still capable of hope. In this shining new novel, two young people from dissimilar backgrounds come together to find meaning in their lives and Restored Hope.

About Brenda Youngerman

Brenda Youngerman is a single mother who raised her 3 children in southern California when they were not living with their father. She has first hand knowledge of what emotional trauma can do to a family as she was the product of a broken home.

She was the youngest member in a very large family and always felt like she was on the outside looking in. She believes that is how she learned to observe life swirling around her and that has given her the edge to write "Fiction With a Purpose," novels about real people in real life situations. She tries to paint a picture of life as it is to give her readers that ability to see situations from a different point of view. Her goal as an author is to have ONE reader pick up a novel and see a similarity in his or her life and see an opportunity to do something to make their life better.

When she goes out and speaks to large groups the subject of domestic abuse is normally brought up. "Unfortunately, domestic abuse is a subject that literally affects every family in this country, and throughout the world. There is not one person that I have spoken to that does not know a member of their family tree that has been touched by domestic abuse.
Be it physical, emotional, mental, sexual, alcohol or drug related. All of these forms of abuse can be boiled down to domestic abuse as they alter the way a family lives and behaves.

"Domestic abuse is a quiet demon that affects all walks of life: rich or poor. It is often kept hidden and the victims are ashamed of their fate.I write to shine the light so maybe someone will see that victims are not to blame. I weave a tale incorporating a story of average people getting involved in average issues that they cannot control. My hope is that
someone will pick up one of my books and realize that they are not alone, that there are thousands of people available to them, to help them. I do believe that one person can make a difference."

March's Book Club Selection - The Last River Child by Lori Ann Bloomfield

Hello Everyone,

March's Book Club Selection is The Last River Child by Lori Ann Bloomfield. If you would like to read more about this title, please click here.

About The Last River Child:

In the summer of 1900, a meteorite lands on the day of Peg Staynor's baptism, barely missing the small church in rural Ontario. This, along with Peg's almost colorless eyes, is enough to resurrect a local superstition that will haunt Peg and her family for years. Many believe Peg to be a "river child," taken over by an evil spirit from the Magurvey River that winds its way through the town. Feared and shunned throughout her childhood, Peg is blamed for every misfortune, from drought to ailing livestock. When her mother, her fiercest protector, dies suddenly on the same day WWI is declared, young Peg must face not only the mistrust of the villagers, but of her father. His grief has driven him to take solace in drink and old superstition, leaving Peg with only her head-strong older sister, Sarah, for support. It will take the terrible reality of World War I to shake off the grip of old world beliefs. As the town's young men begin to return mentally and physically damaged, or not return at all, the sheltered atmosphere of the town is broken. A bright flame of change will sweep through everyone's lives, leading Peg into the future.
